Our story

No Blockers – the beginnings

The story of the No Blockers brand is inseparable from Sohel Zin Alaabidin’s personal story and begins thousands of kilometres away from Antwerp in Homs, Syria. Sohel’s father was a volleyball player at Al Karama Club, one of the most historic and successful sport clubs in Syria. At the age of 14, he officially began playing with the men’s team, alongside his father. In 2011, the Syrian war began and everything changed in an instant. During that period, Sohel started discovering who he was outside the sports halls. At the time, he had two options: take up arms for or against the dictatorship. Instead, he chose to work with the Red Cross and carried out more than 600 missions, working on the ground to help people. He faced countless situations that nearly killed him, yet, after all those years, he was still ordered to immediately report for military service. This is when he left Syria over the sea and into the unknown. When Sohel arrived in Belgium in 2014, he was not completely detached from the war and everything that had happened. The first time he stepped onto the court was overwhelming, feeling the power of the sport and the people. From that moment, he played regularly and built connections across Belgium. After a while, he moved to Antwerp for work and began building a community of volleyball-loving friends.

No Blockers vzw – the start of the official club

This is where the story of No Blockers vzw begins. Up until 2025, many expats and internationals living in Antwerp had played and socialised through MeetUp, a group boasting more than 1000 members. However, occasionally participating in tournaments did not satisfy the hunger of many regulars and soon the idea arose to form an own volleyball club. For this, Sohel partnered up with local organiser Andrei Belogaev and soon, Luka Paul Vethake was brought in to accelerate the process. Passion, organisation and action – this was the combination that led No Blockers through their first successful year as a club. With new people onboarding and sharing their skills, the club is becoming stronger and stronger without losing its DNA: being an open sports community where people connect, grow and achieve, leaving differences aside and playing as one team.

No fear. No limits. No Blockers.
